A project focused on local cocoa processing
SAMEN INDUSTRY S.A. is developing a plant in Baré-Bakem, in the Moungo department, to convert cocoa beans into semi-finished and finished products. Cameroonian media have presented the project as a new grinding facility located in Baré-Bakem. Other reports have covered the foundation-stone ceremony and Baré-Bakem’s entry into industrial cocoa processing.2,3,4,5
The construction site covers 3 hectares, with approximately 1.4 hectares allocated to the main building. Located around 154 km from Douala, the project is positioned within the agricultural area of Moungo while retaining relative proximity to Douala’s economic and logistics infrastructure.
The announced grinding line has a nominal capacity of about 4 tonnes per hour, equivalent to approximately 32,000 tonnes of cocoa beans per year. The plant is intended to convert beans into the main derivatives used by industrial customers: cocoa liquor or mass, butter, powder and cake. This bean-to-derivatives model is central to SAMEN INDUSTRY’s intended role in the cocoa value chain.
Investment, employment and the initial timetable
The project’s estimated investment ranges from XAF 20 billion to XAF 30 billion. It is expected to create between 300 and 500 direct jobs. These figures are projections associated with the plant’s deployment and should not be understood as a workforce that has already been recruited.
The foundation stone was laid on 27 February 2026. The initial schedule announced commissioning before July 2026. As of this update, however, the available press excerpts mainly describe the plant as launched or under construction and provide no usable confirmation that industrial production has effectively started. The current operational status therefore requires direct confirmation from SAMEN INDUSTRY.2,3
Verified information and outstanding requirements
Confirmed factsVerified facts
Confirmed factsThe project is promoted by Patrice Samen through SAMEN INDUSTRY S.A. The plant is located in Baré-Bakem and is designed to transform cocoa beans into butter, powder, liquor or mass, and cake. Documented parameters include the site area, announced nominal capacity, estimated investment range and expected direct employment. The project is also positioned within the SND30 and import-substitution framework.
Information to be confirmed
Confirmed factsBefore making commercial commitments, buyers, equipment suppliers, logistics providers and other industrial partners will require additional operational information. This includes physical construction progress, a revised commissioning date, testing status, capacity actually available, product specifications, packaging formats, marketable volumes and logistics arrangements. No product or site certification is established by the supplied sources.
Documentary readiness concerning traceability and market-access requirements will also need to be assessed against supporting records. Based on the information currently available, no claim can be made that a shipment or SAMEN INDUSTRY meets any particular regulatory regime, including the European Union Deforestation Regulation.
Corporate assessment
The project’s industrial foundation is clearly defined: establishing in Baré-Bakem a processing capability that connects cocoa beans with industrial derivatives. The next market-relevant step is to document the transition from construction to operation. Updated information on commissioning, industrial trials and the commercial product offering would enable potential partners to assess procurement, technical-service and industrial-cooperation opportunities more accurately.
Until those updates are available, the announced design capacity should be treated as a project parameter rather than evidence of current output. The same distinction applies to expected employment and the original commissioning timetable. For industrial counterparties, direct verification remains the appropriate basis for planning.
