In Nkongsamba, SAMEN INDUSTRY Connects Cocoa Collection with Local Processing

An institutional development focused on the value chain

A post published on 23 July reports a working visit by the Managing Director of BGFIBank Cameroon to facilities associated with SAMEN INDUSTRY. The delegation reportedly visited a cocoa bean storage site and the construction site of the future Baré-Bakem processing plant. The sequence highlights the intended operational link between bean collection, raw-material preservation and cocoa industrialisation in the Moungo area.²

This development follows earlier coverage of the foundation-stone ceremony for the SAMEN INDUSTRY plant in Baré-Bakem. Business media have also described the project as a grinding facility designed to process approximately 32,000 tonnes of beans per year. Cameroon Tribune has placed Baré-Bakem within the broader drive to expand local cocoa processing.^3,4,5

Established facts about the industrial project

Patrice Samen is the promoter of SAMEN INDUSTRY S.A. and the mayor of Nkongsamba 2nd. The plant is located in Baré-Bakem, in the Moungo department, approximately 154 km from Douala. The site covers 3 hectares, including about 1.4 hectares allocated to the main building.

The planned grinding line has a capacity of about 4 tonnes per hour, equivalent to approximately 32,000 tonnes of cocoa beans annually. Target products include cocoa liquor or mass, butter, powder and cake. The investment is estimated at XAF 20–30 billion, with 300–500 direct jobs expected.

The foundation stone was laid on 27 February 2026 in the presence of Trade Minister Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana and Agriculture Minister Gabriel Mbairobe. The project is positioned within Cameroon’s SND30 framework and import-substitution policy.

What the visit may mean for industrial partners

According to the Facebook post used as the main narrative source, discussions covered the expansion of storage capacity, stronger bean-collection capabilities and financial support for the industrial facility. The same report states that the processing equipment had been manufactured and pre-assembled in China, ahead of shipment and installation in Cameroon. It now refers to commissioning by the end of the year.²

A separate post from the Groupe SAMEN Patrice page describes the relationship as a strategic partnership supporting local processing. However, the available preview does not provide the detailed financing terms.²

For potential buyers of cocoa butter, powder, liquor or mass, and cake, the planned integration of sourcing, storage and processing is a relevant industrial consideration. It does not yet establish that products are commercially available, that specific quality parameters have been achieved, or that volumes can already be contracted.

Points requiring confirmation

The project timetable needs clarification. The verified company context initially referred to commissioning before July 2026, whereas the 23 July post points to an end-of-year target. The actual status of equipment shipment, installation, technical testing and commercial start-up therefore remains to be confirmed.

Industrial partners should also request verifiable documentation covering product specifications, quality-control procedures, bean origin, supply-chain traceability and available processing capacity. For transactions falling within the scope of the EU Deforestation Regulation, SAMEN INDUSTRY should not be described as EUDR documentary readiness. Only its documentary preparation or readiness may be assessed after reviewing the geolocation, traceability and due-diligence information applicable to the relevant supply chains and lots.
